Kinuthia Family visit

Holy Family Project was founded by John and Katie Kinuthia to serve families in need in Muranga County, Kenya. In 2018, John and Katie, as a family, supported families from his village who were in need. Using their own funds they sent money to support families who were struggling with lack of food caused by famine, a poor harvest, or personal hardships. But Holy Family Project began long before that starting with John's personal experience growing up in Kenya.

John was born and raised in Kenya with his 6 siblings. He grew up poor, even by Kenyan standards. He lived in a mud house, walked long distances to fetch water, went to school bare foot, and wore my school uniform to church as my 'Sunday best'. His family struggled with the uncertainty of poverty, not knowing where the next meal would come from, if he and his siblings would get sent home from school for lack of school fees, and wondering "If they will ever get out of this?"

In 2008, Katie went to Kenya for a year of missionary work with the Salesian Sisters. In the first two weeks she helped serve at a children's camp in the slums outside of Nairobi. The camp was run by local college students. John was one of those college students and together they taught the 8th grade class before breaking out into camp games and activities. In that year of service Katie witnessed extreme poverty but also families filled with faith, joy, love and a culture of true community support.

John never imagined that God's plan for him would bring him to the United States and be blessed with his wonderful family. As a family, John and Katie know the many blessings that God has given to them and His will to use this first hand experience of what poor families go through to help alleviate those burdens. God has a plan for us and He has called us to serve Him and the least of us! Matthew 25.

In March of 2025, we partnered with another organization, Mission, Love and Life, that helped us raise $800 to provide food, seedlings, and fertilizer to help families in need. With that, the desire to organize and grow our efforts into a non-profit organization was born. In May we partnered with our children’s school, to raise funds to bring clean, piped water to 20 families who currently have no water at their home and fetch water everyday from the stream.
